Enniskillen Athletic moved to within three points of the promotion places with a fourth league win of the season on Saturday.

Darren Rogers hit a brace of goals in what was a tight encounter with neighbours Derrychara. The visitors have however have yet to register a point this term having been among the favourites for promotion in pre season.

Athletic manager Peter Goan stated “It wasn’t the greatest of games but it is three valuable points for us. We made six changes from last weeks win over Strule and it’s a problem at the minute, from one week to another I’m not sure who is available but we are winning games and that’s the main thing”

The hosts would open the scoring from a set play, a direct ball from a free on the halfway line by James Carney was headed into the top corner by Darren Rogers.

The lead didn’t last too long for Athletic as Derrychara hit back. Defender Bryan Owens misjudged the flight of the ball allowing Lee Glass in behind to level matters.

Glass has been Derrychara’s shinning light this season and he could have made to two but for a fine stop by Mark Murphy, making his debut in goals for Athletic.

The game was won and lost for the respective sides in a matter of minutes either side of the interval, Athletic registering two goals to take a firm grip of the contest.

A quickly taken free from Daniel Dunbar on 42 minutes caught out the visiting defence, Dunbar finding Richard Flaherty and his right wing cross was tapped in by an unmarked Christopher Curry.

Moments later Dunbar had a great opportunity to add another goal but his effort struck the crossbar as the half ended at 2-1. The second period was only minutes old when Richard Flaherty gathered possession and wove his way past two defenders before he was upended inside the penalty area. Darren Rogers duly dispatched the spot kick for 3-1.

Derrychara though continued to work hard and on 77 minutes they would hit the post while Mark Murphy was the busier of the goalkeepers in the final quarter making a number of stops to secure the victory for Athletic.
