GIG… Bunny and band Its perform tonight (Friday, July 18) in Charlie’s Bar

A CHARITY gig held in memory of the late Catherine Gunn, who died in March of last year, takes place tonight (Friday, July 18).

Catherine, from Enniskillen but living in Belfast, was 22 when she died.

The gig has been organised to mark a year from her passing, with all money collected going towards two charities.

The event has been organised by musicians Luke Burns, from Enniskillen, and Darren Miller, Irvinestown.

Luke explained: “Catherine’s father, Paddy, rang me a few months ago with the idea of doing something to remember her a year on from her passing.

“Paddy mentioned that holding a night of music would be a good idea as Catherine was a frequent attendee of local gigs and an avid music fan. We had originally wanted to it earlier in the year as Catherine passed away in March, but we decided it would be best to have it in summer as old friends would be more available and/or home from university.”

Catherine had volunteered for both Bright Eyes Animal Sanctuary, a local shelter for animals, and The Welcome Organisation, a Belfast-based charity which helps the homeless – and the two are set to benefit from the night of music.

“We have a fantastic line-up of local bands playing original music including Sense Deficiency, If Not When, The DMs and Subordinate,” Luke went on, “We will also have Bunny and the Banned Its coming from Belfast to play a typically thrilling show, I wouldn’t miss those guys!

“There will also be an acoustic stage downstairs featuring Judas, Captain Casey, Conor Phillips, Uisce Nua and many more yet to be announced. I think any music fan who will be attending will find something they really enjoy among all the great acts we have playing, there’s a lot of variation being showcased.”

The event takes place on Friday July 18 from 8pm in Charlie’s Bar Enniskillen. Entry is £5.

“Catherine was a beautiful soul, a genuine human being with all the right morals and principles. She was someone who always had time to talk and make you laugh, she had a great sense of humour. She was very charitable and always felt compelled to help out those who needed it most. Catherine brought out the best in everyone around her and I think the world is worse off without her in it,” Luke said.

“I challenge you to come down and not enjoy yourself and remember a special member of our community who gave back to it so much during her life.”
