Megan McKenna

Megan McKenna is on her way to St Fanchea’s College

CATHOLIC writer Megan McKenna will be coming to Enniskillen on August 2 to lead a day of reflection and prayer.

The event will take place in the new St Fanchea’s College from 11am until 4pm.

People of all ages and faiths are welcome to come along. Megan is an internationally known scripture scholar and storyteller. The theme of the day will be: ‘The Resurrection Story: Are you living the Resurrection Now?’

One of the organising team, Fr Joe McVeigh, has said that the parish is ‘very blessed’ to get a chance to hear Megan speak as ‘she makes the scriptures come to life and she relates them to our own lives’.

“She gets you thinking ‘outside the box’,” he added.

Megan, originally from New York City, has lived, and visited through North and South America (especially Bolivia/Peru), Europe, Asia, Australia, and a collection of islands – Celtic, Japanese, the Philippines, Singapore, Haiti, the Hawaiian Islands, Malaysia, and the Marshall Islands.

She works with indigenous groups, in base Christian communities, and with justice and peace groups as well as parishes, dioceses and religious communities.

She has been on the United States National Board of Pax Christi and in 2002 was appointed an Ambassador of Peace for Pax Christi.

An internationally known author, theologian, storyteller and lecturer, she teaches at several colleges and universities and does retreats, workshops and parish missions. She has graduate degrees in scripture, adult education and literacy from the Graduate Theological Union and the University of California, Berkeley, and a Masters in Systematic Theology from Catholic University.

But foremost she is a lover of words – the scriptures, stories and tales, poetry, images and phrases spoken aloud, written down and spun to make meaning – and how these both convert and transform us and bring meaning and hope to the world.

She resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
