Roslea festival big draw for trad fans

LAST weekend’s start to the annual Sean McAloon Festival, held in Roslea Community Centre, was a terrific success.

Through the Herald, Kathleen McMahon, on behalf of the organisers, thanked all the performers and all those who, by supporting the festival events, had helped make it such an enjoyable event.

“The community support is very much appreciated,” she added.

The festival programme featured a singing session last night, Tuesday, 22nd April, led by Tom Beagan.

And, it continues tomorrow, Thursday, with a session in the Community Centre, starting at 7:30pm, with guest performers Martin Donohue and friends. All musicians are welcome

There is a Fior ceili on Friday night, 25th with Raymond Loney. Doors open 9.30pm. It promises to be a great night of dancing. All are welcome.

The traditional music class starts back next Tuesday, 29th April at the usual times, and there will be a meeting with parents at 7pm to discuss plans for the next two months.

Among the stand-out festival performers were the 16- strong Roslea Comhaltas Youth Music Group  who performed set of tunes , among them local tunes composed by Pat McCabe.

The All-Ireland winning McKenna family, from Augher took part in a set that featured some well-known faces in the local traditional music world, Gerry McMahon, Ciaran Leonard and Martin Donohue.

Kathleen McMahon reported that the festival was going very well.

“We had a great attendance at the concert at the week-end. It focused on local and visiting artistes from Fermanagh, Cavan, Tyrone and Monaghan. Great music, and, great local sessions on Saturday and Sunday night.

This year’s festival concludes with the fior ceili this Friday, starting at 9:30pm.
