New crossing at Round ‘O’
Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has announced the installation of a Pedestrian User Friendly Intelligent Crossing (puffin) crossing at The Brook, Enniskillen in Co Fermanagh.
The Minister said: “This crossing will improve road safety for pedestrians, particularly vulnerable road users such as, school children, the elderly and disabled people.
“The project is now substantially complete and will be fully operational within the next two weeks.”
The action by the Roads Service comes following requests from those using the area.
“DRD Roads Service received a number of requests for a controlled crossing on this stretch of road. The proposal was assessed and prioritised against other similar sites in Western Division and was included in the programme of works for this year.”
Minister Danny Kennedy added: “The main consideration in choosing the location for The Brook crossing was to have it as close as possible to the Round ‘O’ park yet attract the highest number of students walking to and from Portora Royal School. There were also engineering considerations such as the proximity of nearby junctions and the presence of other street furniture.”
