Fermanagh squad heads for 'gold' at Ulster Fleadh

A STRONG Fermanagh traditional music and song contingent head for Cavan this week-end to compete in this year’s All-Ireland Fleadh.

The 11-day festival (’fleadh’) started last Friday, 10th August and continues right throughout this week with walks, talks, seisiúnna and high-profile concerts across a number of venues.
Tonight, Wednesday, the Fleadh Clár (programme) will be launched at a concert in the Liberty Insurance Dome (marquee) on the Dublin Road, at 8 o’clock. Elsewhere, there are other musical events, including Foster  Allen in concert in the Imperial Bar, at 9pm, and a Cavan Town Seisiún Show in the Farnham Arms Hotel, at 10pm.

Tomorrow night, Thursday, features more of the same, including Altan and Clannad in the Dome, at 7pm, John Spillane in the Imperial Bar, at 8pm, and a seisiún by Cavan Comhaltas in McMahon’s Bar, at 9.30.
On Friday, among a menus of counter attractions, there is a Comhaltas Overseas Reception and Concert in Cavan Townhall, at 6pm, and at 8pm, ‘Trad Legends in Concert’ in the Dome.
Competition proper starts on Saturday and continues on Sunday when Fermanagh’s Ulster qualifiers will be vying against the best from the overseas as well as the other provincial contestants.
