Long bank holiday brings in the tourists
The long bank holiday weekend was good news for local business with many reporting the best trade of the year so far. With the Queen’s Diamond jubilee and the Olympic torch passing through the county local business and tourism thrived.
The Fermanagh Tourism Information Centre was inundated with calls, with 445 people calling at the Fermanagh Tourist Information Centre between Friday of last week, the start of the ‘double Bank Holiday’ week-end and Monday last.
A spokesman at the Tourist Information Centre said staff were contacted for many reasons, including suggestions of things to do, places to visit, directions, accommodation, souvenir purchases and fishing licences and permits.
“We had a lot of enquiries with regard to events which were on. For instance, people were interested in what events were on for the Jubilee and we had a lot of enquiries with regard to the Olympic torch relay itself.”
