Fred is 100 years old
HAD Fred Bowles 100th birthday, which was yesterday, but celebrated on Sunday last, been a week later, the Queen could very well have hand delivered it herself!
He lives in Lisnaskea with his wife, Evie (she will be 92 in October) and it was in the Donn Carragh Hotel on Sunday that Fred, and his wife and family, all four generations in fact, along with his daily carers and friends – around 200 in all – enjoyed his big birthday party.
Mr Bowles, who retired from business in 1976, enjoys excellent health, according to one of his daughters, Lorna.
“He had his leg amputated two and half years ago but, since coming out of hospital, he has never looked back and is pain free.
“He bought himself an electric wheelchair for getting about, and now he has update to a scooter.”
Fred came to Fermanagh in his late teens, having been born in Killeshandra, met Evie and married and ran a shop in Newtownbutler. After retirement, they moved to their present home in Macknagh.”
